The study and measurement of time is called horology.
An analog clock is a tool for reading the time of day. The shortest hand indicates the hour, a longer hand indicates the minutes, and the longest arm indicates the seconds. Some analog clocks have only two hands: the shorter hand indicating the hour and the longer hand indicating the minutes.
As the tip of all the hands moving in a circular path they cover an angle of 360° . The 360° is divided into 12 equal divisions. So each division makes 30° with it's nearest divisions at the center of the clock.
e.g. 360 / 12 = 30° .
And 1 minute makes the hour hand move 6 degrees ahead.
e.g. 360 / 60 = 6° .
So by using above formulas we can calculate the speed of the hands. The minute hand covers a total of 360° in 1 minute. So
speed of minute hand = 360° per minute
As hour hand covers 360° in 12 hours, the
speed of hour hand = 360° per 12 hours
= 360° per ( 12 x 60 ) minutes
= 360° per 720 minutes [ 360 / 720 min]
= 1/2° per minute [ 1°per 2 min = 1.2° per min ]
